How to choose correct UPS?

Image
An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is used to protect critical loads from mains supply problems, including spikes, voltage dips, fluctuations and complete power failures using a dedicated battery. Whilst the standby generator started and synchronised, meanwhile UPS system can also be used to bridge the gap. ·          Existing Installations  Consider a central back-up system to eliminate expensive re-cabling. Wise to involve a company specialising in power conditioning. ·          New Installations  Access the level of power protection required. Some installations may demand that every item is supported by UPS, others may only require UPS for a central server and one or two workstations. ·          Type of Client/Application  Emergency services, financial institutions, Industrial etc. This can have an impact on the system specification. · ...

Why does UPS capacitors fails and require replacing?

Image
Why does UPS capacitors fails and require replacing? Capacitors are an integral part in any UPS system, smoothing, filtering and storing energy. But they are also amongst the components in an uninterruptible power supply that are most likely to fail (along with batteries). We’ve put together an informative whitepaper that looks at UPS capacitors in detail. It explores their integral role, how long a typical capacitor should last for, the factors that affect lifespan, what happens when a capacitor fails, and what preventive steps can reduce this likelihood. When will UPS capacitors fail and what happens when they do? There are numerous signs a capacitor may be about to fail. Service engineers can spot most of these during a Preventive Maintenance Visit (PMV): • Leaking oil • Deformation • Burnt valve cap protrusion     • Increase in temperature • Scorched wires What are the main UPS capacitors? Every UPS includes dozens of cap...

Why Ups monitoring is necessary for keeping uptime?

Image
Edge data centres are built up by companies at a furious pace in order to support the Internet of Things along with digital transformation efforts that computer power close to end users. On the other hand, they are managing equipment at these facilities that includes UPS monitoring to ensure data centre uptime. Various edge datacentres that are located in sites and are dispersed over large geographical areas such as distribution centres, manufacturing facilities, retail outlets etc. are expensive and not feasible to reach out IT personnel available to manage these facilities. These edge DC are equally important as centralized data centres as they support all critical applications of business that always demand a continuous uptime. It is essential to keep operations humming along to ensure exceptional customer experiences and to mitigate disruptions in the revenue stream which means that companies need a way to remotely manage the facilities, including UPS monitoring. Ther...

How to keep track of Temperature compensation charger.

Image
Variations in ambient temperature presents the greatest threat to battery installations. Special circuitry can be incorporated in the UPS to compensate for any variations in the ambient temperature making the recharge voltage temperature dependent - the higher the temperature - the lower the recharge voltage. This feature ensures optimum battery performance and helps to prolong their life. The chemical reactions that occurs within batteries varies with temperature, wherein these variations cause a battery charged or maintained at standard voltages to be undercharged if cold, and overcharged if hot. Heat is the worst enemy of most batteries, including lead acid but it always can’t be avoided. As a guideline, each 8 degree C (15 degree F) rise in temperature cuts the life of a sealed lead acid battery in half. Chargers exposed to temperature fluctuations should include temperature compensation sensors to adjust the charge voltage for optimum charge efficiency. Temperature comp...

Why Uninterrupted Power Supply is a necessity for medical equipment in Healthcare sector?

Image
“Prevention is better than cure”. Technology is playing a significant role in improving the health of the people. Imaging technologies, MRI, X-ray, ground breaking scanners and monitors are consumed for few minutes but are critical during patients care. Due to electrical outrages, the operations of these equipment majorly effects the operations including air condition, lights, IT system, telephones etc and to prevent such interruptions, UPS (uninterrupted power supply) is used to remove this gap and play an important role for short time power supply before any generator kicks in. In a healthcare environment, a small fluctuation can impact the difference between life and death. The last thing of a surgeon performing high-pressure procedures needs its extra worry about equipment’s reliability and continuity, thus UPSrequired . Most important role of UPS in medical equipment is that they are a source of clean and consistent power. So when you look out for buying UPS, look fo...
