Importance of UPS system preventive maintenance
Under recommended conditions, UPS
batteries have approximately life upto 5 years . The most important thing to
focus on the ways we can maximize the life of our UPS itself. There are three
factors that contribute for lifespan of power backup solutions i.e. Temperature, unit
placement and cycling frequency. In order to get most out of your UPS, you may
consider few points-
1) While installing UPS system, it is
important to determine the correct place to provide best power protection, a
room with temperature controlled environment
2) Most of the time Single phase
UPS batteries are recommended as maintenance free, which is definitely not the
case. Rather maintenance free battery means they do not require any replacement
of fluids, therefore understanding how to care for and monitor batteries is
essential
3) Operating UPS under few
conditions may increase their life span. When we continue to operate UPS in
varying temperature, this may decrease the performance and life span of the
battery. Hence, keeping UPS at a normal and comfortable temperature is crucial
to maximize its life and performance capabilities.
4) At the time sudden power cut,
UPS will automatically switchover to battery power in order to supply energy.
Once the power is restored, the UPS will be recharged to prepare for the next
power outage and this whole process is known as discharge cycle.
Providing best management and
care to batteries will result in their consistency and high performance.
Understanding factors to provide preventive maintenance and alertness to your
UPS system can help you get flexible, reliable and high efficiency performance
to the respective application.
