UPS system for Industrial facilities



Uninterrupted power (UPS) systems are important from small office to large industries. We need to understand which types of UPS are required in industries and what will be the requirements?
Industrial facilities must have power backup solutions with some specified characteristics, such as -
1) As per load capacity, we need to finalize the UPS. Higher power output is determined by the power of equipment used in industries.
2) Compact design with advanced features of diagnose, maintenance and repair of UPS systems provides easy access to all units of system and minimizes the time that is required in replacing UPS components.
3) Components that are used while manufacturing are intend to intend to increase the reliability of a systems. Increasing cost of UPS but at same time, it is also increasing the life span of equipment which provides support to electricity at the time of power outage.
Types of Industrial UPS systems
1) Standby
2) Line Interactive
3) Online
Standby are also known as Offline UPS systems which are equipped with automatic switches. At the time of power failure, it automatically switch the load on the batteries. They are not expensive and are also not equipped with network voltage stabilizers and require few minutes to switch the power to batteries. These type of UPS systems are only useful at the time of short-term power outage.
Line-interactive are equipped with transformers to control the output voltage due to which number of switching power supplies to the batteries reduced and battery life is saved.
Online are basically a double voltage conversion systems. From variable to constant and then back constant to variable and are used to power large industrial equipment. Along with voltage value it also stabilize amplitude, frequency and phase of the alternate current. Online UPs are more reliable, highly efficient and high frequency UPS systems.
There are various industries and according to their application, different UPS systems are required, as each project is unique and needs to be optimized equipment for its own conditions. For easy understanding we can divide in two –
1)      The first includes Uninterrupted power supply system are the one used to protect power failures in the power supply of production processes and are known as Line interactive type UPS.
2)      The second one are used in IT infrastructures for data storage systems or servers. For such applications Online UPS systems are beneficial.
